As was said earlier this story is very conventional; I'm sure there are dozens if not hundreds of other works on this site that follow a similar if not identical pattern. But that doesn't mean it's bad, either. A conventional plot done well is still a well-done story, and that's what matters when it comes to getting people to relate to it. It's fluff, but it's nice fluff, and there's nothing wrong with that.
